내 삶을 재발견하는 힘
– 협력상회 協力商會

힘을 합하여 서로 돕는다는 뜻의 ‘협력’이라는 단어는 내가 좋아하는 말 중의 하나이다. 삶은 나 혼자 할 수 없는 일들이 대부분이어서, 모두의 힘을 합하여 슈퍼울트라파워가 만들어지는 경험을 한 번씩은 해 보았을 것이다. 그 사실을 알게 될 즈음이 되면, 함께라고 하는 것을 인식하게 되고, 그러므로 주변의 모든 것들에 감사하게 된다. 일상적이고 미약한 모든 것들이 저마다의 힘이 있고 얼마나 소중한 것인지를 알게 된다. 실로, 나는 이번 작업을 통해서 이러한 깨달음을 더욱 강하게 얻게 되었다.

이번 전시의 주제는 [협력상회]이다. 다섯 개의 작은 가게들로 구성된 공간을 어슬렁거리다 보면, 작은 가게의 작은 창 너머로 발견하게 되는 풍경이 있다. 이 풍경은 거리의 풍경일 수도 있고, 매장 내에 설치된 커다란 실내정원일 수도 있고, 비록 타인이지만 오늘 이 순간 만큼은 나와 같은 시간과 장소에 존재하는 아주 가까운 사람들이기도 하다. 매우 일상적인 것이기도 하지만 또 가장 아름다운 풍경이기도 하다.
하지만, 이 풍경은 발견하는 사람들에게만 고요하게 들어 온다. 나는 그 고요한 순간의 바라봄이 얼마나 아름다운 것인지를 많은 사람들과 나누고 싶었다.

공간 디자인을 업으로 하는 나는 디자인적으로는 이번 시즌의 퀸마마마켓은 모두 비워내는 것으로 하고 싶었다. 비워내야, 그동안 보지 못했던 구석구석이 보이고, 이제껏 발견하지 못하였던 구석진 공간의 좋음을 발견하게 된다. 그 예로, 적극적으로 활용되지 못하였던 테라스 공간을 적극 활용하고 메자닌에서 내려다보는 멋진 풍경이 다름 아니라 나와 나를 둘러싼 일상의 모든 것임을 많은 사람들이 발견하게 하고 싶었다. 겸손한 태도로 힘을 합하고 이에 감사하는 모습은 어쩌면, 내가 생각하는 지극히 한국적인 미학이기도 하다. 그러한 기분으로 충만한 공간, 간소하게 비워진 공간, 그렇지만, 미약한 모든 것들이 협력하여 만들어 내는 에너지를 이곳에 놓여지게 될 모든 사물과 이곳을 찾아주시는 모든 사람들과 협력하여서 만들고 또 공감하고 싶다.
 

The Power of Reexploring My Life
– [hyeob-lyeog]

‘hyeob-lyeog’, the meaning of ‘work together and help each other with efforts’ in korean, is one of the words that I am mostly fascinated. I guess everyone might have experienced the ‘Super-Ultra-Power’ of working together, when solitary is good for nothing. When you realize it, you start to recognize and appreciate the coexistence of your surroundings. You become aware of how powerful and valuable those ordinary things are.

I strongly got this enlightenment through this project. The project is titled [hyeob-lyeog]. While you cross through the five corner shops, you will find out certain scenery through the windows. The scenery could be some street landscapes, indoor garden, or people in the same place at the same time, who are very close to you at the moment. It is too ordinary but also too beautiful.
However, it appears in silence, only to whom already discovered the scenery. I wish I could share this beauty of still moment.

As a Space Designer, I tried to empty every possible thing for this project. By emptying you come across the small details you missed and know how special those are. For instance, I used the terrace and the mezzanine as observation platforms to make people to notice that this shining moment-space is in fact, everything usual. Cooperating with modest attitude and being grateful for this, perhaps this is what I think about Korean aesthetics. This place is full of this Korean aesthetics, but also simply has been emptied. But there are always slight things working together. Therefore, I should like to share to every object here and each one of person who visits, the experience of creating energy due to cooperating every subtle thing.
