육각커피(6k coffee)
육각커피는 광주(전라도)시 양림동이라는 지역에 위치하고 있다. 양림동은 한국의 근대문화가 번성했던 곳으로 선교사들을 중심으로 한 서양식 건축물들이 들어섰던 곳이다. 아직도 교회를 비롯하여 비교적 근대건물이 남아 있을 뿐만 아니라 한옥이나 현대건축물까지 남아 있다. 동양에서의 근대는 서구와는 매우 다른 양상을 보인다고 생각한다. 근대화가 되면서 서양의 문명이 들어오면서, 전통과 서양의 문화가 충돌하면서 생기는 예상치 못한 현상들이 벌어진다. 특히 한국에서의 근대는 매우 재미있는 양상을 보이는데, 한국의 전통과 서양의 문화, 그리고 일본의 문화 등 다양한 문화가 서서히 적응하고 녹아드는 것이 아니라, 혼재, 병치, 충돌 등 한순간에 문화가 만나서 만들어내는 현상이 재미있다고 생각하여 이 프로젝트를 진행 하게 되었다.
소재 선택에 있어서, 현대적인 표준화된 재료인 합판을 주재료로 하고, 서양의 몰딩이라고 하는 장식을 결합시키고, 서구적인 건축적 형태인 아치를 차용하기로 하였다. 각각의 요소들이 충돌 하기도 하고 기묘하게 공존하는 분위기가 자연스럽게 내부공간에서도 반영이 되기를 바랬다.
특히, 오래된 가구들을 예기치 못한 곳에서 해부하거나 현대적인 소재와 컬러감으로 재편집하여서 생겨나는 재미있는 현상들을 적용해 봄으로 가장 일상적이면서도 비일상적인 풍경을 만들어 내고자했다.
6개의 도로가 교차하는 사이트에 위치하고 있는 만큼, 가장 노출되고 전망이 좋은 곳에 주방을 두어서 즐겁고 열심히 일하는 사람들의 모습이 마을을 비추는 등대처럼 따뜻하게 비춰지기를 바랬다.
6k coffee
6k coffee is located in Yanglimdong, Junlado Gwangju. Yanglimdong, the city where Korean modern culture was flourished, is where the missionaries had impacts on Korean-western architectures. Yanglimdong still has more buildings from modernization including church and Hanoks, the Korean traditional houses, compared to other cities. Asian modernization in architecture showed many differences from Western architectural modernization. As Asian culture was getting more civilized and mixed with Western culture, the mixture of tradition and new cultures caused unexpected outcomes. Especially, Korean modernization demonstrated very interesting phenomenons such as rapid changes, mixtures and juxtaposition of Asian and Western cultures instead of gradual diversification. These interesting factors brought us to this project (6k coffee).
Plywood, which is modernized and standardized material, is used as the main material with molding. We borrowed arch, the Western architectural structure, to reflect the mixture and coexisting moods in the interior design. We applied some interesting designs and decorations with disassembled or reedited old furniture. Through fun colors and modern materials, ordinary and extraordinary affects are created.
6k coffee is located at the intersection on the six roads. We placed the kitchen on the site that is most exposed and has a good view to irradiate the workers’ positive and diligent mindsets.
